ARRIVAL OF THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL AT AUCKLAND.
[NEW ZEALAND TRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Auckland, July 2. The City of New York left San Francisco on June 9th, arriving bete to con tract time. She brings 64 cabin, and 32 steerage- passengers of which 29 cabin and 6 steerage are for New Zealand. Among the passengers is Mr G. E. Barton, M.H.R., new American Consul for, Auckland, and Mr Grifleu formerly Consul at Copenhagen. GENERAL NEWS. London, June 8. The Pope dissolved the marriage heween Prinee Moreleo and his wife, daughter of the late Duke of Hamilton. The lady is about to marry Count Passilo Eestitica of Austria. Emily Soldeue and Powell her husband, obtained a vu'dict agiinst the Manager of the London Philharmonic Theatre for violating copyright, by producing Genevieve de Brabant without license. Stanley, the explorer, was at Zanzibar on last date. Dr Newman is elevate! to the Cardinalate by the Pope who stated when conferring the di tiixion that doing so, he had done signal service to the Sacred Col! go. and to Society. An influeutal assembly of English and American residents at Rome, met on 14th, at the English College, to present congratulations to Caidi- a: Newman on his elevation, together with rich suit of robes, and a complete set of beautifully wrought sacred vessels for ur,e on the altar, subscribed for l>y Roman Catholics of Great Britain. Lady Herbert of 'Lea, read the addresses and made the presentation. Miss Stackpoole presented a beautiful flower piece. Cardinal Newman was supported on the right by Afchbisli >p Gcfchioiian, Primate of all Ireland, and D. Clifford, Bishop of Clinton. Italian pipers are filled witli praise of Cardinal Newman. King Humbert expressed a desire for an interview.

You see " But she picked up a flower-pot and flung it at him. He jumped back, and, as she entered the house he called out, " Hope insanity won't break out among the twins !"
