Mr Warden Broad will preside for the first time at the Resident Magistrate’s Court hero to-morrow morning. There are but few cases for adjudication. A meeting of the Hospital Committee was held at the Secretary’s office last evening: present—Messrs Pollock (chair), Todd, Marshall, Everett, O’Flaherty, and Garguillo. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Muirhead for his able management of the late entertainment. The sum of £lB 12s was handed in as collection by various members of the Committee. Accounts to the amount of £ll7 19s were passed for payment. The sum of »87 5s Gd was handed in as a portion of the amount realised at the late entertainment, some of the proceeds not being yet to hand. The meeting was adjourned for a week, when the yearly balance-sheet will be brought up, and arrangements made for the annual public meeting and the election of a new committee.
The Stafford Amateur Dramatic Club, in connection with several other wellxno’.vn local vocalists, have kindly given their services on Friday next towards an entertainment on behalf of Mr Charles Boasted, who was injured by a mining accident some time ago. The programme appears in another column.
Wo are requested by the Price Testimonial Committee to acknowledge the receipt of a cheque for fifteen guineas from the inhabitants of Ross towards the testimonial fund. From a letter received by the Chairman of the Committee from Ivir Price, we learn that an operation was to be performed on his eyes, by Dr. Gracey, on the loch nit., and we trust it will result beneficially to our late and respected Warden.
Tenders are invited by the Secretary of the Loyal Albert Lodge of Oddfellows for a medical attendant for the Lodge. Full particul .rs can be obtained at his office, where tenders close on Friday next.
The Governors of Australia and Now Zealand have received a circular from the Secretary of State, to the effect that should ex-President Grant visit the colonies, no official honors, but all proper courtesies, should be extended to him.
