LICENSING COURT.
Friday, June 20. [Before W. H. Revell, Esq., Licensing Officer.] ' Before hearing any application the Licensing Officer said that he understood many persons were under the impression that they could carry on dancing in their licensed houses; but, as he read the law, he might'teU thi?'h it was jn„ direct violation of it; and, would not be allowed; ' The bye-laws of the Borough Council, although providing that a license could be issue'd to theatres and assembly rooms, co'uld riot override the clauses of the Licensing Act in respect to dancing. He 'HM received a memorial from the Good Templars drawing his attention to the lai*ge number of licensed houses in the district, and he thought if people could see their way to make a living, and their houses had been previously licensed, and the police reported favourably thereon, he could not refuse to again renew their licenses, although he should grant no fresh licenses for new houses in the district. The following applications were then heard and dealt with : " NEW APPLICATIONS. - Carl Schultheis, European Hotel.— Granted. Jeremkh Gilbert, Sluicers' Arms Hotel.—Granted. David Thompson, Gibbon's Hotel.— Granted. John Newton, Masonic ' Hotel.— Refused, as license had been cancelled, owing to previous occupier leaving the dist: ict. RENEWALS. The followiug applications for re-, newals of licenses in Kuraara were granted:— Bazil Bremondj Bremond's Hotel. Henry Fitzsimuions, Dundalk Hotel.' Bridget Harrison, Hibernian Hotel; James Rugg, Kumara Hotel. Edwin Blake, Empire Hotel. James Home, National Hotel. Jean Spindeler, Crown Hotel. F. Uphara, Morning Star Hotel. Gilbert Stewart, Stewart's Hotel. M. Hyndman, White Hart Hotel. J. Preston, Preston's Hotel. . J. Slattery, Slattery's Hotel. W. Killeen, Tramway Hotel. J. Mulvihill, Court House Hotel. O. W. Anderson, Theatre Royal Ho el. v P. Adamson, post aud TelegraphHotel. J. J. Morris, Row Hotel. J. H. King, Adelphi Hotel. "^ W. S. Hanna, Victoria Hotel. W. J. M'llroy, Albion Hotel. D. Ehlers, National Hotel. BUSH LICENSES. Bush licenses were granted to J. Noonan, Junction Hotel, IVremakau, and to 0. W. Goodfellow, Junction Hotel, Loop-line road. BOTTLE LICENSES. Bottle licenses were granted to Duncan M'Lean, A. Eoldi, S. S. Pollock, and T. M'Fetrick. WHOLESALE LICENSE. ,A wholesale license was granted to M.
