(b) B to K Kt 5,. followed by B to Q -Kt 5, would have given Black an advantage, either winning the Q’s P, or doubling White’s K’s B’s P. . (c). Q to Kt 3, followed by Kt to K Kt 5 seems preferable. (d) BtoKt3or Q 3 is better. (e) White should here have played Kt k* K 3, .and he would have had much the freer game, the exchanges which must have followed would have given him the superior position. (f) This gives Black a pawn to the good, which he retains to nearly the end of the game. B takes Kt (ch), or Pto K R 3, should have been the move. (a)- By this move White forces the exchange of queens, although a pawn minus. ‘ (h) Bto B 7 would have been an embarrassingmove for Black. (i) Having a pawn to the good and the command of the open file, Black should now have brought out his K or advanced his pawns, for he has by far the best of the game. P to K B 3 is the proper move, followed by K to B 3.

(k) Rto K 2 seems better than giving up the passed pawn. (l) to K2 is still the best move, but 'with the best play on both sides White must win.

(m). If instead of this move Black should reply with 54 Pto QR 5, White would still win by 55 B takes Kt, &c.
