The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. THURSDAY, JUNE 5,1879.

One of the members representing this electorate in the House of Representatives, Mr E. Barff, M.H.R., will address the electors at Hillman s Town this evening ; but there appears but little probability that his colleague “My Uncle’s Nephew ’ will enlighten the residents of this district as to his political views until Parliament assembles. At the Resident Magistrate Court this morning, before E. Barff, Esq., R.M., Isabella Nidd was fined 10s, or 24 hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenness. At a meeting of the Hospital Committee on Tuesday evening it was resolved that no notice be taken of the letter of the Secretary of the Hibernian Society, which appeared in the local paper of that night referring to the non-admission of Mr Mollaumby into the Hospital, as it was found that the applicant’s annual ticket had lapsed on the 11th of February last. At a meeting of the Price Testimonial Fund Committee, held at Diliman’s Town last evening, subscriptions from various places to the amount of £7O were handed in to the Treasurer. There are still a number of lists not yet received, and the Committee decided to hold their final meeting the following week, when the form and date of presentation will be arranged.

A meeting has been convened by the Secretary of the Hospital for to-morrow evening, at Gilbert Stewart’s Hotel, for the purpose of taking steps to form an Ethiopian Troupe, to give an entertainment on behalf of the Hospital funds. As we have a large number of persons in this district who are well known as vocalists of a high order of merit, it may reasonably he presume that on an occasion of this kind they will willingly give their valuable services for so desirous an object. The steamer Wallabi will leave Greymouth on Friday morning next for Wanganui direct, full particulars as to passage or freight can be obtained on application to Messrs Gird wood, Rahman, and Co., Grey mouth.

We regret to learn that Mr John Lazar, of Hokitika, the head of the Masonic body in Westland, lies in a very precarious state, and very little hopes are entertained of his recovery.
