The last Gazette contains a revocation by the Governor of the regulations relating to salmon and trout fishing, dated 31st January, 1879, and the following regulations issued instead :1. If any person shall by any means take or catch any salmon in any stream, river, or tidal water, he shall forthwith re torn such salmon alive to the stream, river, or tidal water in or from which the same was caught or taken. Any person knowingly and wilfully committing a breach of this regulation shall be liable to forfeit and pay Buch bum of money, by way of penalty.not exceeding one hundred pounds, as the Justices imposing such penalty shall think fit. The expression "tidal waters" has the like meaning as given to such expression in certain regulations made UDder "The Fish Protection Act, 1877," and pnblised in the New Zealand Gazette of the 11th of April, 1867 2. So person holding a license issued under the said lastmentioned regulations shall be deemed exempt from these or any other regulations in force under "The Salmom and Trout Act, 1867." We have received the following telegram from Mr Richard Reevep, M.H.R., who is at E resent at the Lyell, in reply to one sent by im to the Native Minister re the Native Reserve :—" Will do my beßt to give effect to the wishes of the Greymonth people.— John Shjeehan, Cambridge."
