Adelaide, May 30. The Governor's speech stated that the proposed reforms in the Legislative Council would be postponed, pending a settlement of the present difficulty in Victoria. It announced the inauguration of extensive public works, considering that the Colony was well, able to bear an increased national debt. It was intended to introduce a measure to compel the propertied class to contribute more largely to the burden of the Colony, thus enabling the Government to readjust the taxation through the Customs. A Bill would be introduced to compel the Chinese in the Northern Territory to contribute to the revenue. The wouth Australian Parliament was opened to-day. The Government intimated the introduction of the Bills referred to in the Governor's speech. Flour, £ll 10s.
