Wellington, May 19. Thei Taxation scheme of Government next session is confidently stated to be—lst, An income tax ; 2nd, To extend the present.land tax by a graduated system, so as to reach large landholders rather than smaller owners, who can be effectually got at by a judiciously devised income tax.
A charge of alleged perjury against Kinross is down for to-morrow, but the Chronicle says it will probably fall through. , Several further small insolvencies are reported.
The Relieving Officer of the Benevolent Society ha; taken proceedings agairst othei members of the Maxted family for not contributing towards the support of their aged parents. Two of the sons were a few days ago compelled to contribute. ,
May 20. The case against Kinross of Napier, has been postponed till Tuesday next, at 9 o clock in the morning, it being proposed to make an effort to get through the case in one day. The Andereon-Easby assault case is adjourned for a fortnight, in consequence of the absence from town of one of the witnesses.
