A meeting of the Local School 'Committee was held , at-the Town Hall yesterday afternoon, the; whole of the members with one exception, being present. It was resolved to again communicate with the Central Board of Education relative to the purchase of the premises lately occupied by the Bank of New Zealand at the Greenstone, as the number of children attending School there ds largely on the increase, and the accomodation is most insufficient. The attention of the Board was also directed to be drawn to the fact that the local committee, in making the temporary appointment of two female assistant teachers at £2 per week each, had been authorised by the Board to make these arrangements, and that the action of that body in reducing the salary of one to £1 10a was at variance with the action of the committee. In consequence of the attendance at the State School being on the increase, the committee recommended the appointment of an additionalmale pupil teacher, and also that a bonus be given to Miss Comfoot in recognition of the manner in which she had performed the extra duty devolving on her during the temporary insufficiency of the school staff. It was resolved to allow the head-master to hold evening classes in the school, for the purpose of imparting the advanced branches of education. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the committee then adjourned.
