Italy, *t Rome, according to communication ■•eceived from the Consul-General foi* Italy, at ’ Melbourne, upon instructions froth the Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 14th March, 1878. We are informed that dealers in medicine Often try to sell the eacylvptus oil foiled in the trade instead of otir EuclyptUs Extract. So far as the committing of imposition against the .public in such a case is concerned, the consequences would not be serious; but as the qualities of both of the products are in manyVaaes directly opposed to one another, we consider it our duty to direct the public attention to the following facts The eucalyptus . oil is recorded to he of value as a medicament in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawing, blistering effect upon the skin. Any blistering brought on by the application of a medicament must increase inflamation, and it is therefore evident that in cases of wounds, colds, brpn* • chitis, diptheria, croup, sprains. &c., the curative power of our extract, on ' the named* diseases being unquestionably proved by"* former publications. in this paper. An application of the oil instead of our extract must impair the diseased. • The truth of our assertion is founded-, upon tide fact that the oil is a resinous .product’equivalent to common turpentine, its market value being about three shillings one pound Weight; our extract . consists of the. evaporating particles of the gum, leaves^'soothing and healing in its effects, its price being twenty-four shillings for one pound, weight. Our extract, the genuine article, is only made up in one half ounce and one ounce vials ; vials bearing on the labels our. trade mark and. signature.
