Wellington. May 1. It is stated that it is intended to establish a chair iu the New Zealand University for Instruction in Mining, Engineering, and that a certificate of competency will be granted by that body in those hrauches of science.

WaNGANUI, May 1. G. B. Worgan, convicted for issuing a forged cheque with James Mackay's signature, has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment, with hard laboi. Wellington, May 1. The report of the Committee on the behaviour of the Hospital matron was read att he Board's meeting yesterday but was not adopted, aa several members wish to .see the evidence themselves. The report will be published at the next meeting. The idea of entertaining the Governor at a banquet has heenabaudoned, owing to his Excellency's desire not to have it held.
