Appended to the certified balance sheet of the accounts of the Borough for' the pastyear, which were laid on the table at a meeting of the Council last evening, was a report from the Auditors expressing their satisfaction at the financial position of the Borough, and the efficient manner in which the books had been kept. The monthly inspection of the local Rifles will be held at the Adelphi Hall,
this evening, by Lieut. Spence, the Inspecting Officer.
Mr Robert Cross, of Stafford Town, has been appointed Dispenser at the Hokitika Hospital. There were fourteen applications, and these were reduced to four by ballot, and finally to two, Messrs Cross and W. C. Palmer. On the final ballot being taken it resulted in Mr Cross favor. Mr W. Willway having sold his plans and interest in the Dyeing Business to Mr R. Upjohn (who has become practically acquainted with the trade), begs to solicit the kind patronage hitherto afforded him to his successor.—Mrs Upjohn announces that she is prepared to clean and dye hats, feathers, gloves, &c., in the best style. N.B.—Gentlemen’s clothes cleaned, dyed, pressed, and repaired on the premises. —Advt.
