Ashburton, April 12. A fatal buggy accident occurred yesterday. Mr S. *W. Brown, architect, accompanied by Miss Fanny Watson, barmaid of the Somerset Hotel, were driving across the Ashburton bridge, when the horse bolted, and on crossing the railway line, the buggy capsised, killing Mr Brown on the spot. Miss Walson was bnt slightly injured. Wellington, April 10. The Hon. Mr Stout, Attorney-Gen-eral, having been taken seriously ill last night, has left in the Hinemoa for Lyttelton, whence he will proceed home by railway.
Auckland, April 10. Kemp, Civil Commissioner, proceeds south to give evidence regarding the Middle fsland claim.
Property destroyed at the recent fire in the State of Nevada (Amoricn), was insured in the Norwich Union for 12,000 dollars; in the Liverpool and London and Globe, for 9000 dollars ; Standard, 7750 dollars ; South British and National, 4600 dollars; New Zealand, 4200 dollars. Oamaru, April 10.
Messrs Hislop and Shrimski addressed their constituents last night, and received a vote of thanks and confidence. Mr Hislop announced himself a supporter of three great questions advocated by the Grey Government—manhood suffrage, land tax, and free trade.
