" And you saw him with the body V said Justice O'Leary to the witness, a plainly-dressed Irishwoman. This was the question that the reporters heard as they entered a local police court. " Wid my own eyes I saw him scrogin' the body into a black bag." " Tis false j" roared the prisoner, flushed with rage. " Mrs Donovan, yer a traitor !" " Silence !" exclaimed Judge O'Leary, hammering on his desk, and breaking the silence he was anxious to preset ve. " Mike Delaney, if yon disturb the proceedings again I'll have you commited for contempt." " An' am I to howld me tongue while that owld desaver psrjures me life away 1 ? An' ye call that justice." "Delaney, silence ! Are you the judge here, Oram I !" said the justice pompously rising and slapping the desk with his palm. " Yer no judge to listen to the lyin' tongue ov a woman who sez that I shtole the l.ndy of -" " Officer, stand beside the prisoner, and if he speaks again——-"
" Aiay, now—aisy. Wait till he hears* all I have to tflll about his thievprW interrupted the witness. "Go on wim your testimony Mr". Donovan," said the jrtsticej impatiently. " How were you aware of the contents of the bag 1" " Shure I saw him doubling np the body, as he put it in the bag. You must know that about three dnvs b-forp, I heerd that me neighbor Sullivan lost a frock " " A frock !" interrupted the justice. '• What has that to do with the case T «Shure it was the body of the frock that belaney had in the bag: He shtole the Frock, but was suspected, and co«saled it between two feather beds whin Tith Sullivan win* to Delaney's to look for it.; Av conrse he was tryin to get of with the frock when the 'peeler' laid his paws upon him." " Thre« mouths' hard exclaimed the justice. " Officer clear the court!" The mo«t dissapointed persons in the couft room were the reporters, who thought they had stumbled npon a sensational item.—New York Paper.
