MINING REGULATIONS UNDER “THE MINES ACT, 1877.”
8 Any person discovering new gold 1 working, and being desirous of obtain- * ing an increased area thereon shall mark off a prospecting claim, as pro's vided in Regulation 11, and shall imt mediately report such discovery with s full particulars to the Warden, and the 1 ground so marked off shall be protected until the Warden shall have finally ret fused or granted the claim ; but the > Warden may, if he think fit, refrain 3 from granting or refusing such claim 3 until the ground shal 1 have been visited by f himself or by anyone appointed by him. Notices of all prospecting claims 8 granted, with full particulars of locality, ) yield of gold, and description of workf mgs, shall be posted by the Warden on 8 the outside of his office for public information. 8 It shall not bo lawful for tbe Warden e to grant a prospecting claim for any 8 new discovery at a less distance than 1 two miles from any previously existing e workings in alluvial ground, nor to t grant a prospecting claim for any new discovery of a quartz ieef at a less dis, - tance than half a mile from any 1 previously existing quartz workings. 8 Every prospecting claim shall, after being marked, be held by one man re- - maining on the ground during working hours until the application is dealt with, I and, if granted, the claim must, unless z 1 by special permission of the Warden, - ! be fully occupied within seven days from the date of grant. ■' The Warden may, if he think fit, II grant a prospecting claim to the actual y discoverer of new gold workings conjointly with persons who have assisted V them in prospecting either with contributions or otherwise, or with other per--11 sons who may be nominated by the actual discovers, although the said * persons may not have been on the ground prior to the granting thereof. 1 The Warden may, upon the applica- * tion of any persons forming a party of ■' not less than four, grant protection for I not more than three months for a, " prospecting area “at a distance of not less than two miles from any existing e workings in alluvial ground, or in the e case of quartz workings of not less than half a mile from any existing quartz workings : Provided in no case shall any such prospecting area be granted 0 within half a mile of any other such II prospecting area. Provided further 7 that such protection shall only continue m force until gold is struck, in which 11 v.aso the discovery shall be reported, ’■ or until the holders arc required l»v the Warden to mark a prospecting claim. ( in either ot which cases a prospecting '• s .claim shall be marked and applied for as *' provided in Regulation 11. and \ r ., and ( * protection shall thernpen cease as to ■' the remainder ot such prospecting area. It shall he lawful for the Warden to (1 renew from time to time the protection s ’ I’ ol ' a prospecting area. Provided that such renewed protection shall not he granted for more than, three months at any time.
