The Rinemoa left for Wellington with the Premier, Mr and Mrs Seymour George and Private Secretary. The Premier visited Mokihenui Island to ascertain its fitness a« a site for a lighthouse for the Hauraki Gulf for vessels from Australia or the United States. At the annual meeting of the Yonng Men's Christain Association, T. Hawkins was elected president. The reports stated the lesnlt of Dr Somervilie's efforts to be £lO2l.
At the Volunteer inspection, Major Morrow complained that the rifles served out to the Auckland volunteers were not Government tested s ind iuferior, and in consequence, they could not issue friendly challenges to the Southern volunteers. Colonel Pneke promised enquiry and redress. Wellington-, March 29.
A Gazette issued to-day announces that the Govi-vnor will hold a levee on Thursday next. The Won. Henry Stuart Lytttslt u h.;s been appointed PrivateSe reiarv, and Captain K. B.St. John, 35 oh Ke-t., A.D.C. to the Governor.
