BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fottnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Town Hall last evening. Present : His Worship; v the Mayor ,(in the chair), Councillors,Brown, Campbell, Cornfuot, Hanna, Pollock, 1 Fitzsininious, and King. Mr H-irne, the'newly elected Councillor, having made the. usual declaration, also took his seat. The minute* of the previous meeting were read and corinrmed. The outward cprrespoddence was read and approved,of, and the inward lead' and received. The .Town Clerk > brought up the following report auent licenses to dance halls. Report from town Clkrk in re Licenses for Dance Halis. It has been represented to me by some of the owners of dance halls, that it is desirable that licenses for dance halls should be coterminal with public house licenses, as one license in come measure depends npon the other, and it is always uncertain whether the Licensing Officer will renew the public house:.licenses or not. And they request that iiiVthe first instance, licenses may be issued for three months terminating on the same day as the hotel licenses. , As that request seems to me to be reasonable and fair, I beg to recommend that it be granted, with the distinct understanding that at the end of the present quarter none but annual licenses will be granted. -- James Wylde, •Town Clerk./ The mayor said he had been consulted in this matter by the Town Clerk and he quite concided with the suggestion contained therein. Cr. Hanna, as mover of the original lesolutionon this matter, thought the report would meet the views of all parties, and moved its adoption, which was; seconded by jCJr..CamplSell, and carried unanimously. The. following notice of motion was tabled by Cr. Hanna for the ...next meeting :—" That it is desirable .that the Special Licensing -District of Kumara should'be done away with, and that the CTo'vernment be -requested \to bring the Borough under the ordinary licensing regulations." : * The. Council then adjourned*
