Mr Gishorne waited upon the Hon Mr Macandrew this morning, with reference to the VVestland, #nid Qtago : railway survey, which was promised by Mr Macandrew and the House last session. Mr Macandrew said the Government would be unable to do anythin" this year, the department being alieady overtaxed ; but the ''matter .'had not been lost sight of, and as soon as
possible a party of surveyors would be isent over the proposed; route. He also said there was a strong pi ooability; that a road could; beforaied from Milford Sound, and he had correspondence on the subject from a gentle man who guaranteed to find such a road. --.-'■
One of the Warwick's crew was charged this morning before the Resident Magistrate with being found* twice asleep on the 1 voyage while on look-but duty. He was sentenced to four weeks' imprisonment. The man pleaded he had been for 48 hours without sleep; but the Magistrate said he could not allow that to influence him, as the sailor by his negligence had endangered the lives "of-250 persons.. This, he. said, gave the offence a very grave aspect; if the man had had insufficient sleep, he should have appealed to the master of the vessel. Henry Anderson, of the.
