PIJRE VOLATILE EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS EXTRACT, Under the distinguished patronage of his Majesty the King of Italy, at Rome, according to communication received from the Consul-General for Italy, at Melbourne, upon instructions from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 14th March, 1878. "We ape informed that dealers in medicine often try to. sell the eacylypr tug oil found in the trade instead of our Euclyptus Extract. So far as the committing of imposition against the public in such a case is concerned, the consepuenpes would not be serious; but as the qualities of both of the products are in many]cases directly opposed to one another, we consider it our duty to direct the public attention to, tlje folr Jpwing facts;— The eucalyptus oil is recorded to be pf va}ue as a medicament in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawing, blistering effect upon the skin. Any blistering brought on by the application of a medicament must increase innamation, and it is therefore evident in cases of wounds, colds, bronchitis, diptheria, croup, sprains 4c., the curative power of qur extract on the named diseases being unquestionably preyed by former publications in this paper. An application of the oil instead of our extract must impair the diseased.
TJ}e truth of our assertion is founded npon the fact that the qil is a resinous product equivalent to common turpentine, its market value being about three shillings one pound "weight; our extract consists pf ttje pyapprating particles of the gum leaves, soothing and healing in its effects, its price being twentyrfour shillings for one pound weight. Our extract, the genuine article, is only made up in one half punce and one ounce vials; vials heaiv sng on the labels our trade marl?, and signature.
