SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
[to the editor.]
Sir, —'The Education question having developed so much of the talent and energies of our legislators, it seems strange to me that, teachers who have given general satisfaction to the community at large, where located, should be at the mercy of a few individuals constituting a Local Committee, and who, for mercenary or other motives, act unjustly. A glaring case in point is the Kumara School. When its efficiency hasbeen proved why should the Local Committee try to oust teachers who have proved competent, and by doing so open up a question which has taken the utmost stretch of our Legislative ability to arrive at a conclusion as to the best means to instruct the youth of ours to be a—Grand Nation.?— All residents here must admit the efficiency attained by the teachers who, under the able management of Mr Phillips, have from the crued material placed under their charge, produced definite results. Therefore, I ask the question, why should they, who having thoroughly instituted a system giving general satisfaction, be replaced by others who have to learn or alter the existing—regime % I say No! Let, well enough alone, and I am sure the majority of right-thinking men will say the same. I am, &c.* Paterfamilias. Kumara, February 18th, 1879. [Our correspondent is in error.
