We are indebted to that mysterious and extraordinary body, the Press Agency at Wellington, this afternoon for a message of over 200 words, informing us that Sir George Grey has given his opinion in the New Zealander as to what measures the Governor at Cape Town should adopt in the present Zulu campaign. As Sir George has already shown his great military abilities when dealing with a similar matter in the Colony they will no doubt be justly appreciated by the Press Agency ; but why we should be compelled to pay for contributions to the New Zealander, we are at a loss to opine. A telegraph station is now open at Duntroou, in the County of Waitaki. The funeral of the late Mr Robert Stevenson, who was accidentally killed while working in his claim at PrettyWoman’s Gully on Tuesday last, took place at Stafford Town yesterday afternoon, and was attended by nearly three hundred persons, who had come from all parts of the district to show this hist tribute of respect for the deceased. Mr Stevenson, who was a native of Scotland and 52 years of age, had been a resident ; of the Waimea district for ’ many years, and had gained the esteem of all those with whom he came in contact; and we sincerely regret to learn that his untimely death has left his widow and seven child- . ren totally unprovided for. A subscription has been started on behalf of the I } family, in Stafford Town, by a committee of which Mr John Palmer is secretary, ; and we have little doubt that with the J ’ characteristic generosity of the people generally in any matter really deserving, ■ • it will be liberally responded to. • A female patient named Kate Poster died in the Hospital at an early hour this morning.
