Under the distinguished patronage of his Majesty the King pf Italy, it Rome, according to communication received from the Consul-General for Italy, fit Melbourne, upon instruction's from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 14th March, 1878. We are informed that dealers in medicine often try to sell the eucalyptus oil fount} in the trade instead of opr Euclyptus Extract. So far ps the committing of imposition against the public in such a case is concerned, the consequences wquid not be serious ; but as the qualities of both of - the products ftre in many|cases directly opposed to one another, we consider it our duty to direct the public attention to the following facts:— The eucalyptus qil is recorder} tq be of value as a medicament in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests u drawing, blistering effect upon the skin. Any blistering brought qq by the application of a medicament must increase inflamation, and it is therefore evident that in cases of wounds, colds, bronchitis, diptheria, croup, sprains &c., the curative power of our extract on the named diseases being unquestionably proved by former publications in this paper. An application of the oil instead of our extract must impair the diseased. The truth of our assertion is founded Upon the fact that the oil is a resinous product equivalent to common turpentine, its market value being fibout three shillings one pound weight; our extract consists of the evaporating particles of the gum leaves, soothing pud healing in its effects, its pi ice being twenty-four shillings for one pound Weight. Our extract, the genuine article, is poly made, up in one half punce apd pile ounce vials j vials bearing o.n t}m labels our trade mark and pignatu re.
