The ohoriis.'s and quartettes ;>Ve wall chosen, and consist of several very ehoic-o and select pj.e.\os. the rendering of which are entrusted, to our Greyinonth vocalistic frienda, wliose talents are not unknown to fame in the musical world-. - The Kumara String Band have kindly given their valuably services, and those who have Hot yet heard those brilliant musicians, and wish to enj )y a
delightful musical treat should avail themselves of the opportunity this evening. The programme will be inter-persed throughout by connective readings by the Rev. .J. Newman Buttle, from " Uncle Tom's Cabin," illustrative of the life of "Eva," and in connection with this we arc requested to state that the song " Sweet-bye-and ; bye," which has excited the greatest enthusiasm in Dunedin and Christchurch, will be given by special request this evening.
The Commissioner (Dr Giles) appointed by the Government to make the award between the County Council and the Borough of Ross, relative to the amount due to each body when Ross was first constituted a Borough, has giten an award of £I6OO to the Westland County Council. This must be peculiarly congenial to the feelings of the municipal body as they had, previously to referring the matter to arbitration, offered to take the insignificant sum of £4OO to square matters generally. MrII. Jenkins, a well-known pedestrian, has issued a challenge to walk a mile against IX Houstin for £lO a side. Full conditions are obtainable at the Buck's Head Hotel, Main street Mr H. Fitzsinnnons was duly elected a meittber of the Borough Council yesterday in the place of Mr D. Kannan, resigned. The votes recorded were—Fitz-
