MAORI SERVICE AT ARAHURA.
On Sunday la*t a service was held in *he Maori language, at the Church built by the Maoris at Arahura, the officiating Minister.. being the Rev. J. W. Stuck, who is perfectly familiar with the language in vogue amongst our aborigines. The service, its surroundings, etc., were thoroughly in character, and of a novel rle: cription to any European who had n<>t previously attended on a similar occasion. Mr Stack was quite at home Jn the Maori language, and harangued bis dusky audience in a most familiar maimer, being profuse (as is the custom of the race) in the use of illustra'ious and metaphorical language. Gesticulations and marks of approval appeared on all sides, and many were the attitudes indulged in. The male portion of the congregation stowed their hats (some with ostrich feathers, die., and of the " bellto|ij.ef" species)' beneath the piles of the church, and appeared to enjoy the occasion and" fully to sympathise with the endeavours of the pastor, who was oblige 1 on this occasion to pay them but a flying visit. The singing and responding was of the most boisterous description, but was marked throughout by a spirit of reverence and devotion.
