A MUSICAL CRIEVANCE.
[to the editor.] Sir—-Rebictantly enough I venture to address you on my little grievance, not so much in the hOpe of finding therein a remedy as that it is in some sort a relief to one's pent-np feeling* to give vent to them. I refer to the con* .tinuous frenzied eff -rts in the musical line of a certain inspired individual in Seddon - street, of swpet and pensive smile verging on the vacancy of idi<»cy in his labored endeavour to extort strains of harmony from a sixpenny fiddle. But h.»w vnin i« that lal>oured i endeavour, we, his unfortunate neighbours, too well know, inasmuch as,'with ears out of tune and fingers that are all thumks, hi* attaining_proficiency is out of the question; otherwise we.tihon'd not be so much cast clown. Dr Johnson believed music to be the "least dis* agreeable kind of noise." Not so, this gentleman, whose rendering is of an exactly opposite character. Comnmnc* ing, as he does at. day break, with the chromatic scale in A flat, and continuing throughout the whole day until 2.30 p,m„ when he winds up with the same scales with A minor, scraping relentlessly the whole time, with throe intervals for meals, he leaves nothing wanting for our complete torture. ■': ItT is astonishing how monotonous the scales become after yon have listened to them for 18 hours incessantly. Already one gentleman near has been driven to dissipation in consequence, and several filicides are impending; pro|»erty around, also is much depi euiatcrd in value by it. Will you kindly infirm me whether there is liny: Act in force {that w: 11 justify ihv- extinguishing thfc •m'tn And oSlige, yours, &n;, ..." ' [Our orresponlent is evidently sujf-,. fering from a severe attack of a m-'ist' inliarmonious character; and, with a view to ..its relief, we should strongly recommend that the opinion Of, R.Stewart, Esq., I. N\, be obtained as to the legality or otherwise bF the disturb* ing element in this caie.—-Kd K'. T.]
