We understand that, in accordance with instructions from the Borough Council, the Town Clerk has taken proceedings against a prominent citizen of this town for not taking out a business liconse, and that the case will be tried before tae Resident Magistrate to-morrow. The "Volunteer Rifles paraded at the Adelphi Hall for monthly inspection last evening. There was a good muster present, and the Inspecting Officer (Lieutenant Spence) after putting the company through the manual exercise, gave them an hour's sharp company drill. At the conclusion of the parade, a number of entries were received for the handicap rifle match to take place on Saturday next, for which the handicap will be declared to-morrow. It was notified by the officer in command, (Lieut. Munyard) that the annual class firing would commence at 6 a.m. on Monday next. We are requested to draw attention to a typographical error that occurred in the advertisement of the sale of Mr Brown's property in Seddon street. The sale will positively take place on Saturday next the '2sth January, not " February," as erroneously printed.
