The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. MONDAY, JANUARY 20, 1879.

The. Christchurch mail arrived in town at four o’clock on Saturday afternoon, or about half-an-hour in advance of its' contract time. The English mail, via San Francisco, arrived at Creymouth last evening, and was received- here by the first tram-this mornim*. A local and instrumental concert will take place at the Theatre Royal this evening, at which Mr J. O’Connell, the

Celebrated violinist, will perform several original selections of English,: Scotch, and Irish melodies* As lie will be ably assisted by several well-known talented artists, and also the Chinese and German delineator, the programme is one that should not fail to give an enjoyable evening’s amusement to a crowded house.

We learn that several spirit demijohns which were known to have been safely removed from the premises of Messrs Dungan and O’Brien during the late fire, have not up to the present time been accounted for to the owners. In giving this publicity we do so*in the hope that their restitution may have been overlooked during the excitement, and that it will be found they are in the safe custody of some friend whose attention will be drawn thereto by this paragraph. The monthly inspection of the local Rifle Volunteers will be held at the Adelphi Hall to-morrow evening, and, in accordance with an order issued by the Officer Commanding the District, fines will be strictly enforced for non-attend-ance. At the conclusion of the parade entries will be received for the handicap rifle match which is in future to take place on the third Saturday in each month. In our advertising columns will be found a revised list of the inward and outward mall service for the present year between this town and the head-offices, and various other towns of the colony. Mr W. Will way having sold his plant and interest in the Dyeing Business to Mr R. Upjohn (who has become prac= tically acquainted with the trade), begs to solicit the kind patronage hitherto afforded him to his successor.—Mrs Upjohn announces that she is prepared to clean and dye hats, feathers, gloves, &e., in the best style. N.B.—Gentlemen’s clothes cleaned, dyed, pressed, and repaired on the premises.— Advt.

For miraculous cures by the use of Eucalypti Extract, read fourth page.— [Advt. ]
