MASONIC INSTALLATION.
f- The instillation of officer of the : Lazar Lodge, E.G., took place at the Masonic Lodge-room, Main street, yes- ; terday afternoon. There was a large | attendance of the brethren of the Lodge, i and a number of visitors, the most dis- | tinguished of which were the following : 1 Brothers J. Bevau, V.W.D.D.G.M.; J. I Hud ion, P.D.G.S.W.; G. Benning, i D.G.J. W.; G. W. Watkins, D.G. | Chaplain ; W. H. Revell, P.M.; H. I Hvams, D.G.B.D. ; Bevan, D.G.J.D. ; ' H. J. Robinson, D.G.T. ; Thompson, | D.G.5.8.; J. P. Klein, D.G.T. G. and j R. Gosson, D.G.O. The ceremonies of j the installation were carried through in , a moat impressive manner, and with ; that solemnity so characteristic of this j grand ritual of the Order by the Vener- , able R.W.D.G.AI. Bro. Lazar, who, with i h:s usual desire to advance the wellj being of the craft, came up from Hokitika especially for the occasion. The following officers for the ensuing year I were installed :—Brothers G. F. Furby, W.M.; J. Hannah, S.D. ; J. Everett, J.D. ; T. Connell, Treasurer ; J. Miller, Secretary ; Laurence Spyers, T.G, ; and W. Anderson, Tyler. In the evening the members of the Lodge and the visiting brethren, to the number of fifty, sat down to a banquet at the Empire Hotel. The spread, which was one that reflected the greatest credit on the caterer, Air Grant was characterized thebygood taste with which it was laid and also the choice description of edibles placed before the guests. The newly-instailed W.M. occupied the i chair. He was supported on his right j by Bro. Lazar, I*.W.D.G.AI. and Bim. : Bevan, V.W.D.D.G.M., and on the left | Ly Bro. Auchcr, P..M. and Bro. Watkins, ■ D.G. Dhaplain. The toasts of “ Tim | Queen and the Craft,” “ The Princ • of i Wales, Provin -ia! Grand Master.” “ t'he Pmviueiil Grand Bulges of Kng and and S.-or.land,” “Tim District Grand Master, Brother Lazir,” were propped j from the chair and responded to in time j Masonic order. Bro. ing confident that his officers would ably assist him in the working of the Lodge. The toast of “ The Worthy Deputy District Giaud Master of Westland” followed, and after many other toasts had been proposed and responded to, the meeting assumed a convivial turn. During the evening several of tha brethren favored those present with some capital songs and recitations, the accompaniment of Brother Gosson on the piano adding greatly to the spirit of the general harmony that prevailed. As many of the visitors had to return some at an early hour this morning, the festivities were not of a prolonged nature.
