The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 1879.

Shortly before goiug to press we received from Wellington a message of over 500 words, consisting of the Hon. Mr Stout’s speech to his constituents at Dunedin last night, but, owing to the hour at which it was received we are unable to give it publication in this issue. A deputation consisting of Messrs King and Foley, of the Greenstone, interviewed His Worship the Mayor and several of the leading citizens this morning, for the purpose of calling a public meeting to advocate the making of the track, from Lake Brunner to the Greenstone, into a dray road. As a road has been already made from the Christchurch road to the Lake the contimiation to the Greenstone would be of material benefit to the residents here, as, it would divert the traffic in this direction. Messrs F. A. Learmonth and Co. submitted at public auction to-day, at their Mart, a one-fourth share in a gold-mining claim on the Shallow Lead, the property of the late Peter Skalen. The bidding was spirited, and from £5 it gradually increased to £2O, the quarter share being eventually knocked down at £2l. . A similar share in the same claim was bought a short time ago for £B, thus proving that its auriferous nature is not on the decline.

Mr W. Willway having sold his plant and interest in the Dyeing Business to Mr.R. Upjohn (who has become practically acquainted with the trade), begs to solicit the kind patronage hitherto afforded him to his successor.—Mrs Upjohn an-nounces-that she- is-prepared to clean and dye hats, feathers, gloves, &c., in the best style., N.B. —Gentlemen’s clothes cleaned, dyed, pressed, and repaired on the premises.— Advx. For miraculous cures by the use of Eucalypti Extract, read fourth page.— [Advt.J
