MINING REGULATIONS UNDER "THE MINES ACT, 1877.”

Any person discovering new gold - working, and being desirous of obtain-1 ing an increased area thereon shall j mark oif a prospecting claim, as pro-1 vided in Regulation 11, and shall im- j , mediately report snob discovery with | full particulars to the Warden, anil the j ground so marked oil shall be protected i until the Warden shall have finally re- j fused or granted the claim ; but the j Warden may, if he think lit, refrain | from graining or refusing such claim j until the- groundshal 1 havebeen visited by | I himself or by anyone appointed by him. j , Notices of all prospecting claims' granted, with full particulars of locality, i yield of gold, and description of work- j mgs, shall be posted by the Warden on ■ the outside of his office for public iufor- i j mation. j It shall not be lawful for the Warden to grant a prospecting claim for any new discovery at a less distance than j j two miles from any previously existing j , workings in alluvial ground, nor to! I grant a prospecting claim for any new j • discovery of a quartz leef at a less dis. | ; tance than half a mile from any j i previously existing quartz workings. j j Every prospecting claim shall, after j I being marked, be held by one mao re- j I nuiining on the ground during working i I hours until the application is dealt with, i ! and, if granted, the claim must, unless j j by special permission of the Warden, j be fully occupied within seven days i I from the date of grant, | The Warden may, if he think fit, grant a prospecting claim to the actual i discoverer of new gold workings con-, jointly with persons who leave assisted j them in prospecting either with conti i-j butions or otherwise, or with other persons who may he nominated by the actual discoveiers, although the said persons may not have been on the ground prior to the granting thereof. j The Warden may, upon the application of any persons forming a parly of j not less than four, grant protection for | i not more than three months for a) 1 prospecting area “ at a distance of not' i less than two miles from any existing ; workings in alluvial ground, or in the , i case of quartz workings of not less than ■ | half a mile from any existing quartz ] workings : Provided in no case shall | any such prospecting area be granted j within half a mile of any other such i | prospecting area. Provided that such renewed protection shall not be I granted for more than three months at any time. Every prospecting area shall be continuously worked by at least two men during tho entire period of occupancy.
