CHESS MATCH.—KUMARA V. DILLMAN'S TOWN.
The chess match between six players of Kumara and six of Dillraan's Town, or. more correctly speaking, of " The Lead," will take place to-morrow" evening. One of Kumara's strongest representatives being unable on this occasion to take part in the contest, his task has been kindly undertaken by a gentleman lately ariived, and who has proved himself well .qualified. The following are names of the competitors, arranged in the order in which, we believe, they are intended to play with each other : KUMARA. THE LEAD, Janion *. Palmer Weisner ~ Ballantyne Petrie „ Ball Huxtable. „ Gill Birmingham ~ Hoist Blackburn „ Smart Of course a larger number of players on both sides could have taken part in this tourney, but a sufficient number has been anauged for to make the match as equal an one, it is considered, as has yet taken place in Ktfmuva. Each man is as evenly-balanced against his respective opponent as players can well be, and it, i ri difficult \o predict which side will win the* majority of games, of which there will be only one each couple. Play will commence at ahoitt seven o'clock, some of the games being conducted at the Literary- Institute, the others at Mr Rugg's Kumara Hotel. We anticipate some yood g Hlued will be contested, and certainly more interest will attach to the resultof this match than any that has .taken place in this district since a Kumara team bft Greymouth.
