NEW GUINEA.
The fteiys brought from New Guinea bv the cutter Prospect, which left Port t on theft24th ultimo, and reached, Gooktown recently, wears a better completion than any hitherto deceived froni the exploring parties. We are told that .a party of prospectors, who came into Port jftpresby for rations on the. 20th, reported that they had penetrated the scrub and reached “ goodlooking” country—that is, good from a •gqld-seeker’s standpoint. They found slaty ridges and quafte boulders within 15,miles of the maid'dividing r&nge. The specimens were small, blit coarser and less water worn thin those already fOliUd. The, party spoke hopefully of success, and were determined to return and renew the work of prospecting, tn peint .of health they Were satisfied. Nearly the whole of them expressed jfcßeir’ conviction that gold will be found fr6t far from" their last prospecting camp. Mr Goldie accompanied Frank Jones’s party of prospectors with the object of collecting specimens 6f natural history. The Prospect people also report that Mr Inghaiii had arrived with his steamer, at Port Moresby after a very bad 'passage, having lost a boat, the cargo stores seiioUsly damaged.
