THE BUSH FIRE IN CANTERBURY, Further Particulars.

Timaru, November 18

The fire in M'Donald's bush Geia 1 - dine, destroyed adeal of valuable timber, and the other damage done to the Waimate bush was enormous. Studholme estimates his loss at £40,000 ; Richman, bush and out-buildings, £4OO • L. Price, .£1000; Barrett, mill and machine £800; Theobald's bush and homes were all destroyed, leaving himself, wife, and children with nothing. The fire is still burning, but vpry little damage has been done to the Maiden Bush. The loss will fall principally on wood cutters and holders of sm ill sections of dry bush, which have been swept. Hayes's large portable engine was saved,. and his upper mill is expected to be at work in a week. Hunt, JefFeries' and Barret's plants were totally destroyed, and it is now ascertained there are forty families destitute.

The Mayors of Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, and Dunedin, ave to be requested to take steps to assist in obtaining relief. The houseless people are lodged temporally in the Public Hall, Hospital, tfcc. The losses are estimated Studholme's, £40,000, Price's, £2,000; Barrett's, £BOO ; Hickman's, £4OO. It is estimated that 80,000 will not cover the damage. Wellington, November 18.

In the divorce Court to-day, in the case of Woolcock v Wook-ock and Waddel, Mr Travel's applied, on behalf of the petitioner, that the decree be made absolute, which was granted.
