FATAL EFFECTS OF THE GALE i YESTERDAY. j Timaku, November 16. ; A frightful fatal accident occurred toi day when the roof blew off a house
near Orrasby's flour mill, taking the chimney with it. Through the fall off the latter, it caused the instantaneous death of an infant seven months old, and Mrs Drew, the mother, died about ton minutes after. Mr Drew is a respectable man, and head miller at the mill in question. Great sympathy is felt at his sudden bereavement. Oamaru, November 16. The fiercest gale that wad ever known here raged yesterday. Windows were blown in, and houses unroofed, some of which were blown down. Two men had their legs broken. Westport, November 16. . The Reeffcon coach, met with auocher exceedingly narrow escape yesterday at the Nine-mile Creek, where the mountain torrent washed the horses off thenlegs, swamped the coach, and endaugeied the passengers lives. Wellington, November 16.
Owing to the heavy gal e blowing yesterday only one wire was working on the simthern telegraph/line, and the Press, and public telegraphic work was considerably delayed in consequence.
