In consequence of tire scarcity of coke in Wellington, the tramways sire obliged to use coal ; and Griffiths’ biscuit manufactory will have to stop if a supply of coke be not obtained shortly. The New Zealander this morning, referring to the management of the Wellington Hospital, insinuates that the personal property of persons who die there is frequently appropriate ! as perquisites by persons connected with the hospital. It mentions the ease of one Ma ■on, who was received into the hospital two or three months ago, and whose wife was residing in Invercargill. A warrant of committal fir contempt'of Court has been issued against a man named Hill, who called upon and annoyed his wife after she had been granted judicial separation. The cargo and hull of the Oarlotta, as she lies on the rocks, was sold for £43.

Collector of Customs there that the wine is bona fide produce—which cerl- - must be produced at the Custom House here by the person who pays the duty. To-night’s Gazette notifies that Sir George Grey has been appointed Minister in charge of the Marine Department, and of the administration of the Shipping and Seamen’s Act, 1877. Hill, who formerly kept a tobacconist shop on Lambtou Quay, was this morning adjudged guilty of contempt of Court by Judge Gillies, who directed him to be imprisoned in Wellington gaol until he purged himself of his contempt. Hill apoligised for disobeying an injunction granted against him, and promised good behavior for the future. Hill’s wife had obtained a deed of separation from him, but he used to force himself on the premises, and for which she lately caused him to be imprisoned for a month for a similar offence. Subsequently she obtained the injunction, and for breaking which Hill has incurred the displeasure of the Court.. The Mayoralty election is Causing great warmth of feeling, and the contest is becoming keener every day. Both evening papers reply to the charges and insinuations against the hospital officials in this morning’s paper, and go into all the circumstances of the case referred to in order to show that the allegations were altogether without foundation. The Post says the hospital authorities have written to the Colonial Secretary to cause an inquiry into the whole of the circumstances. Dunedin, November 14.
The Court inquiry into the circumstances attending the accident to the steamship Taupe, gave its decision this The captain and first mate’s certificates are suspended for six months; the second officer’s certificate was returned, but he received a severe repTimand for not reporting to the captain when he altered the ship’s course.
