PUBLIC MEETING AT -WEST?- ..>. ~t ".■"; •'■'".' 1 - > A crowded open-air meeting of miners was held yesterday;, afternoon opposite Foley's Store* Westbrookey to consider the excessive demand per head made by the directors of the! Erin-go-bragh Water-race for supplying water to the various claims, Mr Oorbhjan, f who ,-w.as- chairman,, briefly stated the object of meetings arid; the following resolutions were, all unani- ■ mously adopted :- ,'. Proposed by Mr John Mexican, and seconded by Mr B. J. the opinion of this meeting the prices nxed., % for the sale of water by theEiin-go-bragh '.' Water-race Company are excessive and will tend to impede the further development of terrace." i Proposed- by Mr James and seconded by Mr Ttmothy o*Bbibn, — I "That in the opinion of this meeting £2 10s per head all round would be a fair price." Proposed by Mr John MsiaaroAN, and seconded by Mr Robert Brown—-" That a deputation consisting of a man from each claim wait on the company's manager at the Greenstone, to. lay before him & copy of the resolutions passed-at this meeting; said deputation to be fully empowered to act for the best in all matters." Proposed by Mr John Melucan, seconded by Mr Thomas Kii/leen—" That a petition be drawn" up arid the signatures of the minere concerned, obtained,.praying that the Directors may comply with the resolutions passed at this meeting,-'*" Proposed by Mr Thomas Kjlleen and seconded by Mr John . That , no water be used by any of the parties on the terrace until an understanding be come to between the Directors and the miners." Proposed by Mrß. J. O'Rottrke—"That the company be asked to supply free water to miners until such time as they get their claims in working order."
