The schooner Wild Wave this morning parted all her chains, tore out her hawsepipes and stanchions to the forerigging, and was driven on to +he beach, thumping heavily, and likely to be a total wreck. Christchurch, October 17. Mr Bills, the well-known ornithologist, arrived from Australia by the Arawata, and proceeds to England on behalf of the Acclimatisation Society, for the purpose of selecting some .£3OO worth of birds. The railway authorities hope to be able to run through trains to Dunedin to-morrow. Twenty-four fishing licenses have been taken out. The season commenced yesterday. At a meeting of the Fire Brigade last evening, it was resolved to ask the Dunedin men to take part in the demonstration of the 16th. A raid was made upon the bakers yesterday, tor the purpose of an analysis of their bread. Of 12 samples, 10 were found Very good, one indifferent, and one very bad. Steps will be taken against the maker of the latter, which was also found ahoi t weight, under the Adulteration of Food Act. LATEST UNPUBLISHED. Nelson, October 17. At a meeting held yesterday evening it was resolved—“ That this meeting cordially approves of the determination of the Nelson members to use every form of the Hou.se in opposing the Railways Construction Bill, unless the Nelson and West Coast section of the main trunk line is included, and an appropriation made,”.
