Wellington, October 16, The Council on resuming last night, further 'discussed Mr Waterhdhse’s amendment, namely, the insertion of words “ not being a Maori.” ’ The 14th clause, after some discussion on the amendment, was carried by 25 to 11. Mr Hart moved that a new subsection be inserted re leaseholders holding a lease having three or more years to run yielding a profit of over £lO per annum. This was carried on a division, and the clause as amended agreed to. In clause 16, Mr Miller moved the insertion of the word “ male” between “ every” and “ personal loss” in clause 18. Mr Waterhouse moved the insertion in the sixth line of the following words, “ his name enrolled on ratepayers roll in force in district for which he claims to .vote,” which was carried. Mr Waterhouse moved that subsections A and B be struck out, which was carried on the voices, and the clause as amended then passed. --v, ;
A motion was agreed to that free passes he granted on the railways of the South Island to Volunteers on the Prince of Wales’s birthday, to enable them to attend the general review at Dunedin,
