[press agency.] The paper mills of Messrs Bagshaw, Norwich, have been destroyed by fire, also a portion of the Great Eastern Co’s railway works at Ipswich. In a terrible fire at Birmingham four persons perished, and at Pimlico there has been a great timber fire. Obituary-Prince Imperial, of Japan: Madame Van de Weyer, widow of the late Belgian Minister in Loudon ; S. S. Dickenson, ex M.P. for Stroud. The want of cordiality in the rela--1 tions between Macmahon and his Ministers has given rise to rumors that the President will resign in the autumn. The Marshal refused to attend the service at Notre Dame, on the anniversary of the death of Thiers. Marshal MacmaHon has signed eighty pardons and commutations of sentences for persons compromised during the Commune. At Berne an international conference ,is deliberating on measures for the destruction of the “ phylloxera Testatrix.” The pest is eommitting great ravages among vines in the north of Portugal. Violent shocks of earthquakes were ; felt last Monday morning at several tqwns in the Rhine Valley and Belgium. At Karmen a house had the roof displaced, furniture was shaken, and shop goods Overthrown. The late . Queen Christina is to be buried in the Escurial with royal honors. Villireno, leader of a late rising in Estramadura, has been tried by court martial, and sentenced to life imprisonment. The other insurgents have been condemned to various periods of imprisonment fr»m 8 to 17 years. ! The silver wedding of the King and Queen of. Belgium has been celebrated with great festivities. All the European Governents were represented. Lord Torrington delivered to the Queen autograph letters from Queen Victoria with the Ladies’Order of the Star of India. - The fete extended over several days. - During, .the past, three months 563 persons have been prosecuted for insulting the German Emperor, of whom 621 have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. Cardinal Franchi is believed to have been poisoned in drinking a glass of shebert. His successor has had several suspicious attacks of illness. In the Austrian occupation of Bosnia, after a preliminary victory over the. insurgents, the Austrians entered Serafero where a desperate street conflict took place, in which men, women, and even hospital patients joined. Houses were burned, and the assailants suffocated. The insurgents lost SOQOin killed and 700 wounded. The clisarment of the inhabitants was ordered under penaltv of death. A large amount of booty was seized, including 27 guns and abundance of millitary stores, Nuiuerons Tuikish officers and soldiers were taken prsoners. On August 21 General Jpursnivick’s division after severe fighting, relieved the garrison shut up in Stolac. On the 23rd the insurgents attacted General Septero’s division in its position on the Bosnian river, but after nine hours’ fighting they were, driven off. Afterwards they attacted the Austrian centre, but were effectually, repulsed. They incessantly assailed and harrassed the Austrains. The losses incurred by the Austrian army have excited great exasperation in Hungary, and the Press indulges in loud upbraiding of the Government.
