KUMARA PROSPECTING ASSOCIATION.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the members of the above association was held in the Town Hall last evening. Present Messrs Dungan (chair), Beam, O’Hara, Wylde, and Anderson. The minutes of the last meeting: were read and confirmed. Reports Nos. 8 and 9 from the prospect* ing party were read as follows f • Report No. 8. To the Secretary Kumard Prospecting Association. Sir—Our work for the week ending to date consists in sinking 14 feet. We have started a few chains from the terrace, and in a S.S.W. direction from No. I’shaft. We have traced the reef in places, so we dont think we shall have to go very deep. M‘Donald has not been out this week for to work, but as we had a track to cut, and plenty of other surface work to do, we have not inquired about him.—We have. &d., Peter Anderson and Party, Prospectors. Prospectors Camp, Shaft No. 3, October 9th, 1878. Report No. 9. To the Secretary Kumara Prospecting Association. beg to inform you that we have bottomed No. 3 Shaft this morning’ on main reef at 45 feet depth. The shaft is dry, except the last two or three feet j but there is not any prospect of playable gold. The country .that We have gone through is loose drift right through to the bottom.—We haYe, &c., Peter Anderson And Party, Prospectors. Prospectors' Camp, October 12th, 1878. P.S. We should haVe bottomed the shaft yesterday, but the Weather was so bad we could not keep the fly over the shaft. A letter to the Under-Secretary of Goldfields was read and approved of. Mr Dungan reported that Md‘Donald having ceased work another man named Busten had takem his place. Mr Dungan also reported having paid Wages £7 10s. for the last fortnight, and having received £4 3s. fid. fcrr -subacrip--tions. Mr Geany having h# the district hie resignation Was, by ISSaest, tendered by Mr Dimgam ' ’ Accounts amounting to £llßs. 6d. Were passed for paymettt.The collector, Mr C. A. Jofles handed in the sum of £2 15s received for last week’s subscriptions. It was moved by Mr Dungan and seconded by Mr O’Hara : “ That the next shaft; be sunk between larrikins and the Christchurch t road, three miles from the present workings. h An amendment was moved by Mf Peant and seconded by’ Mr Anderson : “That one more' shaft be sunk towards the beach and if that is unsuccessful, that the next shaft be sunk in the position indicated by Mr Dungart’s motion. ’* - . The amendment was carried only the mover and proposer voting fofthe original motion. ■ • The meeting then adjourned. .
