MINING REGULATIONS UNDER “THE MINES ACT, 1877.”
Any person discovering new gold working, and being desirous of obtaining an increased area thereon shall mark off a prospecting claim, as provided in Regulation 11, and shall im- : mediately report such discovery with full particulars to the Warden, and the ground so marked off shall be protected until the Warden shall have finally refused or granted the claim ; but the ■ Warden may, if he think fit, refrain from granting or refusing such claim until the ground shal 1 have been visited by ; himself or by anyone app pin ted by him. Notices of ail prospecting claims granted, with full particulars of locality, ; jyield of gold, and description of work- i |mgs, shall be posted hy the Warden on 1 [the outside of his office for public infer-; mation. I ] It shall not be lawful for the Warden ' | to grant a prospecting claim for any : inew discovery at a less distance than; j two miles from any previously existing | workings in alluvial ground, nor to■ grant a prospecting claim for any new discovery of a quartz teef at a less dis. i tance than half a mile from any i previously existing quartz workings. Every prospecting claim shall, after 1 being marked, be held by one man re* maining on the ground during working ; hours until the application is dealt with, and, if granted, the claim must, unless j by sjrecinl permission of the Warden,, be fully occupied within seven days I from the date of grant. The Warden may, if he think fit, grant a prospecting claim to the-actual discoverer of new ■ old workings conjointly with persons who have assisted them in prospecting either with contributions or otherwise, or with other persons who may i>e nominated by the actual discovers, although the said persons may not have l>oen on the■ ground prior to the granting thereof. The Warden may, tqxm the application of any persons forming a party of not less than four, grant protection for not more than three months for a prospecting area “at a distance of not' less than two miles from any existing workings in alluvial ground, or in the case of quartz workings of not less than ' half a mile from any existing quartz j workings : Provided in no case shall ; any such prospecting arm lx; granted | within half a mile of any other such I prospecting area. Provided furtlier : that such protection shall only continue j m force until gold is struck, in which i case the discovery shall he. reported, ;or until the, holders are required iy the ; Warden to mark a prospecting claim, |in either of which cases a prospecting ! claim shall he marked and applied for as 1 provided in Regulation TL and V., and , protection shall thernpon cease as to the remainder of such prospecting area, 3t shall he lawful for the Warden to [ renew from time to time the protection ; for a prospecting area. Provided chat : such renewed protection shall not be granted for more than tnree months at any time. i Every prospecting area shall he continuously woi-ke I hy at least two m-u during the entire period of occupancy.
