FIRE AT TAURANGA. Tauranga, September 23. Some buildings on the town wharf, and a large amount of valuable property were burned last night. The damage is estimated at about JJIOOO. They were partially insured. A new settler, named Smith, at Kati Kati, is a severe sufferer by the fire. Dunedin, September 23. At a meeting of the County Council, on Tuesday next, Mr Fish intends to move “That the opinion of the At-torney-General be obtained as to whether the Council has power to increase the salary of the Mayor during the currency of his office.” It is also proposed to appoint a Commission, with a view of securing the co-operation of the suburban municipalities in providing a water-supply for the city. - ______
