Captain Thomson writes to the Southland Times*” in reference to the reported reef between RuapUkiand Waipapapa, that reference is made to this “ break” in his sailing directions for Foveaux Straits, published In 187(1, He defined its position from two points on the Bluff-land by triangulationj, notice of which he sent to the maxinrf authorities at Wellington, Withare l commendation to have it,snrvejed. He estimates the depth of water to be from three and ft half to four fathoms at low water.
