[press agency.] Christchurcec, September 10. A meeting of Cornishmen was, held last night, and a committee formed to collect subscriptions for the purpose of making a New Zealand gift from Cornishmen in this Colony for a new Cathedral in Truro. At a public meeting, held at Kowai Pass on Monday evening, it was resolved that the best route for a railway from the East to the West Coast was via Waimakariri and Taipo. Six American engines have arrived at Port Chalmers in the ship South Minster, from New York, for the Christchurch and Dunedin section of the railway. Invercargill, September 18. A telegram from Inspector Fox says he had arrested Welsh, the supposed murderer, in Waikawa Bush, to-diy. An inquest will be held on the body of Mrs Welsh, at Waikawa, on Friday. H.M. M'Culloch, coroner, goes from Invercargill to officiate. This is all the information to hand at present.
