The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1878.

The Hospital Committee will meet at the Town Hall at the usual hour this evening. .

Eainaford ister in charge of the Nelson and West Coast District of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, arrived at Greymouth per Taraura this morning. His stay in this district is necessarily very short and consequently he will visit Kumara sooner than was anticipated. By advertisement it will be seen that he is to preach here on Thursday'evening next, at 7.30. p.m. The resolutions carried on Saturday night at the public meeting relative to the proposed railway route, and yesterday forwarded to the members representing the district, received prompt attention at their hands. To-day telegrams were received by the Mayor as. chairman of the meeting, from Messrs Barff and George endorsing the views expressed, and stating that they had laid the matter before the Government. ' . •. . The Stella returned to Bluff Harbour on Friday last, ' bringing with her the Natives who claimed the right to Centro Island. They did not give up willingly, but the look of the Police had the desired effect. 'The claim of Teau, the son of' the original, grantee, will be enquired into shortly by Goyenunent. The Inangahna Times of September 2nd records the death of Mr Patrick Kelly. Mr Kelly was one of the pioneers of the Inangahua, being one of the original prospectors of the Golden Fleece lino, and amongst the fortunate shareholders in the company of that name. He was also amongst the earliest explorers of the Otago goldfields, having reached this colony from Victoria before the main rush to Gabriel’s Gully. On the first receipt of the news of gold discovery on the West Coast Mr Kelly at once made his. way down, and thereafter acted a leading part at nearly all the important rushes which followed. A telegram in the Dunedin Herald says that Mr Maoandrew was frightened from going to Dunedin by the threat contained in a Press Agency telegram, that he would be extensively deputationised on arrival in Dunedin. The San Francisco News-Letter says the banking wealth of New Zealand and the Australian colonies is £70,000,000, or about £35 per capital; a proportion which is certainly extrordinary, and much beyond that of the United States. Scipio said that “a valiant and brave soldier seeks rather to preserve one citizen, than to destroy a thousand enemies.” Gollah on a similar principle, destroys the thousand pains of rheumatism, sciaticia, and lumbago, by his “ Great Indian Cures,” the Wonder of thq nineteenth century. Testimonials may be seen in another column, and medicines may be procured at all Chemists. —[Advt.] For miraculous cures by the use of Eucalypti Extract, read fourth page.— [Advt.J - - .
