[press agency.] BalclutHa, September 9. A fire occurred at Kfiifcmgata at half-past two on Simduy morning, by which a cottage, stable, and three valuable horses belonging i> the Kaitaugata

Coal Company were consumed. The cottage was occupied by a man named William Bain, who was absent at the time of the fire. He has lost his furniture and clothes. The value of the horses and buildings is estimated at £250, an 1 are insured. The three horses were trained to work in the mine, and some time must elapse before other horj.es can be trained in the same way. The origin of the fire is unknown.

Before leaving a report was current that the insurgents had descended from the mountains at Orari Orae on or about August 16th, defeated a small party of French, and ate some of the slain. This is stated to be the first case of cannibalism since the disturbance began. The natives are evidently bent on fighting to the bitter end.
