Wellington, August 27. It is understood that the Government do not intend to make the office of .“Sheriff any longer a special appointment. It is expected that the next Gazette will contain a notification that all Registrars of Supreme Courts will, by virtue of their office, act as Sheriffs of their respective districts. Auckland, August 27. Third d ay: Mares Produce Stakes, £100; Auckland Plate, £IOO ; Steeplechase, £l5O ; Stewards’ Cup, £IOO ; Consolation, £lO. LATEST UNPUBLISHED. Wellington; August 28. Press messages, consisting in the aggregate of over words, were sent from the Wellington office daring one day last week.
