THE NORTHERN RAILWAY.
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir—l am also triad to notice that no invitation has been given to any Mayors outride Canterbury to interview the Premier and the members" of the General Assembly on their arrival in Christehurch to open the through Railway line from Christehurch to j Dunedin, with a view to obtaining an { extension of the line from Christehurch j to the West Coast; but should our I Mayor (the Mayor of Knmara) take a i pleasure trip on the occasion to Christj church, and have an interview with [ the ab'jve-said gentlemen, it is to be hoped that he will not in any way | bring forward a new route, viz., a line j from Kumara to Amberlev. I think such a line would be absurd, as the line I from Hokitika to Greymouth will uo j doubt come through Stafford Town, ! Goldsborough, and Ivuin.ra. I think j to propose such a line would be a far-e. j Have we not had enough of the .southern route, without beginning again to heap f.esh coals on that, destructive , fire which is now quietly smouldiring : away.—l am, «fec, F... 0. !
