MINING REGULATIONS UNDER “ THE MINES ACT, 1877.”
Any person discovering new gold ! working, and bning desirous of obtain-! ing an increased area thereon shall j mai*k oft' a prospecting claim, as pro- j vided iu Regulation 11, and shall im- j mediately report such discovery with j full particulars to the Warden, and the j ground so marked off shall bo protected j until the Warden shall have finally re- I fused or granted the claim ; hut the Warden may, if he think fit, refrain from granting or refusing such claim until thi- groundshal 1 have been visited by himself or by anyone appointed by him. j Notices of all prospecting claims ! granted, with full particulars of locality, ! yield of gold, and description of workings, shall be posted by the Warden on ' the outside of his office for public infor-! mation. It shall not be lawful fur the Warden I to grant a prospecting claim for any j new discovery at a less distance than j two miles from any previously existing j workings in alluvial ground, nor to j grant a prospecting claim for any new ! discovery of a quartz reef at a less dis. j tance than half a mile from any ! previously existing quartz workings. ! Every prospecting claim shall, aftei i being marked, be held by one man re- j maining on the ground during working i hours until the application is dealt with, and, if granted, the claim must, unless I by special permission of the Warden, I be fully' occupied within seven days from, the date of grant. j The Warden may, if he think fit, grant a prospecting claim to the actual ! discoverer of new gold workings con- i jointly with persons who have assisted j them in prospecting either with contributions or otherwise,, or with other per-1 sons who may lie nominuted by the! actual discover*, although the saidi persous may not have been on the 1 ground prior to the granting thereof. The Warden may, upon the application of any persons forming a party of; not, less than four, grant protection for: not more than three months for aprospecting area " at a distance of notless than two miles from any existing' workings in alluvial ground, or iu the case of quartz workings of not less than half a mile from any existing quartz workings : Provided in no case shall any such prospecting area be granted within half a mile of any other such prospecting area. Provided further that such protection shall only continue in force until gold is struck, in which case the discovery «hall be reported, j or until the holders are required by the j Warden to mark a prospecting claim, j in either of which cases a prospecting j claim shall lie marked and applied for as ! provided in Regulation 11. and V., and j protection shall therupon cease as to | ; the remainder ot such prospecting area. \ It shall 1« lawful for the Warden to j renew from Lime to time the protection ' for a prospecting s-.m». Provided that ! such renewed protection shall not Vie granted for more than three mouths at any time. j Every prospecting area shall lie con- \ thiU'iusly worked by at least two men I r Juriug the entire period of occupancy.
