FROG SOUP.
The officers of the first French squadron that ever auchoredj in Bos!on harbour received an. invitation todinner from one of Boston's " cits"; named Tracy. The good Bostonian, led astray' by the popular belief that Frenchmen live chiefly' on frpga, caused all the swamps (if.t'ftmbiidge to be,searched, in order to furnish a supplyv When the' SQj.ip .was brought up, the host ladled/out a. supply, for his guests,. taking each should have a t frog. had,.the plate : ~ ful, and, oil putting hiispoon in, fished up a large frug "us green and .as complete as if it had "hopped out of a pond ■ into/the tureen." Not knowing what it "was, he seized it by one of its hind legsV and, holding it up before the whole company, discovered that it was a ful) grown frog,' As the plates went round, fresh discoveries were made, and the uproar grew universal. Meantime the host kept his ladle going, wondering what hi* outlandish guests meant,by such extravagant merriment. " What ii the matter?" lie asked at length, head! and surveying the frogs, which, held out by one leg, were dangling, in all directions. .''.Why don't- they eat them?" he exclaimed, 'f if they knew the confounded trouble I had to' in. order to treat them to a-dVli of their own country, thev would fiiid that with uie at least it was no jcke."
